TOUR: After the Memorial Celebration, some of us traveled across town to the Center for the Performing Arts (PAC) for a tour of the UMKC Conservatory Electronic Music and Recording Studios. Can you spot the original Leith Stevens Moog?
SOUND MANDALA: Then we descended to the Black Box stage in the basement for a demo by Tom Mardikes of his Sound Mandala project. Featuring a towering wall of loudspeakers plus more on the sides, each speaker is directly connected to a separate track of a 48 track ProTools session. This experiment in direct control allows, among other things, greater fidelity of each track, and vertical and horizontal movement of sounds. (Actually, you should ask Tom for the real explanation!)
